Good idea from another blog

I don't know the etiquette for passing on other people's blog links but on the basis they are in the public domain I assume I won't have overstepped the mark by directing you to a good idea.

I keep meaning to make a photo book for each of my finished projects; you know those things that Snapfish, Vistaprint, Asda, Boots do for you.  I haven't gone into it very much but they don't seem to offer an option to add a load of text (????)  Needless to say the months go by and I am still meaning to do it.  Meanwhile someone has done it using a purchased piece of software.  It is a lovely end product.

Take a look at this

Small Packages

Caveat for out of the States readers:   I suspect that postage of the finished product from the States to the rest of the world might be off-putting.  They won't even mail a disc to the UK, so they may not even mail here.  You'd need to check these things before committing to buying and downloading the software.  However the idea is great and I will be on a search for a UK software supplier.  Watch this space.

  1. Hello Marilyn,
I never thought of making one myself, but that is a great idea! thank you for sharing the link and good luck finding a UK supplier.

    1. In my case it is because I have to sell on each project when they're done if I want to do another because I don't have room to keep them. So it would be nice to have a record of each one of them. For other folk I think it is a portable way to show off your work and offers you a nice browse from a comfy seat when you just want to wallow in what you've done.

  2. The Shopping Sherpa published her own miniature book through this site
http://www.blurb.com/ and it looked fab. Just a thought =0)

    1. Thank you Pepper. Will scout it out later...this has set me off again, who knows I might even get a book done! I only have three to do, so I need to get on with it before it becomes four. Marilyn

  4. Seems like if you just want an album with maybe some captions any of the ones you see will do and there are massive instantly recognisable companies like Boots, Asda, Tesco that do them. Just google 'photo album books' and there are rafts of them to choose from and I suspect any will do (?) Pepper mentioned Blurb.com and the do have a UK arm and the advantage with them is you can make a proper book including a lot of text. I happen to have a beautiful one made by a lady in the States who has published several books for sale by this method so I have seen the result. That's the root I am investigating right now - not publishing of course just making one for me. Hope that helps. If/when I get there it will be blogged of course....... Marilyn

  5. Hi Marilyn,
My daughter is a chemist working for a company that does research projects. She constantly needs to keep organized notes and photos of any given project for quick reference and to share with co-workers. She was telling me that she uses a free organizational software called EverNote. I have not tried to use it yet, but it looks very promising as a dollhouse project tool. Here's the link if you'd like to check it out: https://evernote.com/download/

    1. Thanks Jodi. I have a notetaker that I am now used to but I did have a look at Evernote and if I wasn't using one that would be the way to go so thank you for flagging it up for folk. Marilyn
